Pit, Julie, Annika, and Martin with Santa

We have had a wonderful start to our offseason and next summer is looking very bright.  We just wanted to let you all know that we will be closing down our operations over the next 10 days or so in order to spend some quality time with family and friends.  We hope that you enjoy your holiday season as much as we will.  From the entire Turenne family, as well as the entire “Aikens family” of staff, volunteers, and friends, have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The new calendar and newsletter

Well as another year comes to term, we at Aikens would like to wish you (our humble readers) a most enjoyable Holiday Season and all the best in the New Year!

Following tradition ,we spent last Thursday stuffing envelopes with our new calendar and newsletter to have them reach you before the end of December. Fueled by Boston Pizza and a few barley pops, we sealed over 1100 items containing our brand new stylish calendar featuring pictures of our pristine lodge in various settings. Also, the newsletter will inform you of current news at the lodge and of the fishing last season. The calendar will serve as a physical reminder as to why we all love our time spent at the lodge. A pricing grid is also included with the newsletter.

Martin hard at work! The Mailout Crew

We brought the whole bundle over to the Canada Post office downtown at the end of last week and so they should be arriving on your doorstep any day now! With the Trade Show season just around the bend, things for us at the lodge are gearing up to be quite the exciting winter! Speaking of winter, here in Winnipeg the snow is about a foot and half thick and we’ve just come out of frigid cold snap. Already, I can’t wait to to sweat it to the oldies on the Saddle in July. Come on Summer!

If you haven’t received a package and would like this information pack, please contact me (Patrick) at Pat@aikenslake.com and I’ll gladly send it to you!

Happy Holidays!

Surprise! Pit turns 30!

December 3rd, 2007

Suprise!!Pit with a collage of him made by his cousin PaulThe party is in full swingBirthday Jello shots!!

After weeks of planning, Julie with the help a few select team players, succeeded in completely surprising a usually very aware Pit. The boss with the hot sauce is turning 30 years old on Christmas Day.  Seeing as how his birthday falls right in the middle of the holidays, it had been years since there was a special party planned just for his benefit.   Well…

On Saturday evening, 40+ people silently milled about downstairs as Pit opened the door arriving from his hockey game. Greeted by Julie and an unfamiliar odor (hors d’oeuvres in the kitchen), Pit did a quick double take before being trumpeted : SURPRISE!

Food drink and laughter were on the menu Saturday night. I even did a shift as bartender. What a blast! Great job Julie, and watch out you might be next….

Congratulations Pit on another decade and happy birthday!

Aikens Veterans To Be Wed!

Cedar&Gen.jpg

Well, it’s been a while since my last post and I have some interesting points to discuss with you, my esteemed Aikens supporters. It is my pleasure to announce to you the wedding of two of our past employees. Many of you remember past Head Guide Cédric (Cedar) Paquin who guided at the lake for five successful years. Cedar’s quiet, effective and passionate approach towards fishing has made him one of the best guides Aikens has ever seen. Most of you also remember the smiley, charming and beautiful Geneviève (Gen) Rosset. Gen worked three summers at the lake in and around the lodge. Quite the accomplished angler herself; she specialized before some of the guides did!

These two high-school sweethearts are tying the knot on January 11th 2008 in romantic Varadero, Cuba! Talk about a great spot. Ced, Gen on behalf of everyone in the Aikens family, congratulations and all the best wishes on your wedding. We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness! (I know you guys are going to Cuba, but honey-moon at Aikens? Just throwing it out there…)
