Trophy list swells to over 140

August 1st, 2003

We are now sitting at 142 trophy fish. We have been on a torrid 4 trophies per day pace for the past few weeks. The walleye fishing has been out of this world. We are 25 trophies ahead of our best season ever (2001) when we ended up with 211 trophy fish. If you have not made plans to

Alyse Greteman’s monster

August 1st, 2003

The Greteman trip has been a complete success. The family has caught many big fish, but the biggest came this morning. Thirteen year-old Alyse landed a gigantic 30″ walleye at Chris’s Corner. It had a 15″ girth. I am sure this made grandfather Tom a very proud man during his 50th anniversary of his first trip to Aikens Lake! A great big thank you to the Gretemans who cooked a shorelunch for the entire staff today!

All spots are on

July 29th, 2003

Stable weather has brought with it fantastic fishing. A great number of trophy walleyes have been caught in the past few weeks. The usual fall spots such as Middle Gull, MOFN reef, the Saddle, Banjo Reef, and South Shore Reef have all been hitting. Chris’s Corner and Pit’s Point are also starting to produce large fish. Most walleyes are being taken between 22-29 feet of water. Some big mammas are being dragged out of as much as 37 feet of water. The fall fishing promises to be outstanding!!!

Tom Greteman, 50 years of loyalty!

July 25th, 2003

In a few days, one of our most loyal and friendly guests, Mr. Tom Greteman, will be a making a historic 50th anniversary trip to Aikens. Tom first came to Aikens in 1953. He has supplied us with pictures of his first trip that are proudly displayed in the lodge. This year, Tom and his wife Celine will be joined by his 5 children (Amy, Mary, Jane, Kirby, Dan), their loved ones, and a several grandchildren! We wish Tom the best in his trip and thank him for being such a great client, but above all being such a great person. I know the staff is looking forward to hearing Tom recite to perfection the story of Peetie the snake. We hope you have a wonderful trip!

Human Calculator visits Aikens Lake

July 24th, 2003

We are proud to have met one of the truly amazing people on this earth. Mr. Scott Flansburg is officially recognized in the Guiness Book of World Records as being the “Fastest Human Calculator”. He achieved this title by adding numbers in his head quicker than an accountant using a calculator! He has appeared on many television shows, including the Oprah Winfrey show on May 20, 2003. He calculated the total price of his groceries, including taxes, before the teller could! Check out his website at www.humancalculator.com

Many Caribou Sightings

July 20th, 2003

This year has been an unusually great season for spotting the rare Woodland Caribou on the shores of Aikens Lake. Bucks, Cows, Calves, and combinations of these have been seen roaming the western shores of the lake. Some have been spotted as they are swimming to new destinations. The name of our Provincial Park is Atikaki which is a Native American (Cree) word meaning “Land of the Caribou”. We are adjascent to the “Woodland Caribou Provincial Park” in Ontario. The Woodland Caribou is a rare and endangered species that is quite a sight to behold! Here is a shot taken by one of our guides earlier this season…

Gerry’s back in action

July 12th, 2003

Today, after spending a well deserved and relaxing break in the city, the Big Boss with the Hot Sauce is back at Aikens. He is going to get the lodge in order for our next clients who are going to love that the fishing is just getting better as the summer goes on. Expect that trophy list to grow by leaps and bounds!

Trophy list up to 50 and counting!

July 3rd, 2003

The website has been updated and the 2003 trophy count is now at over 50! Check out some of the pictures in our Master Angler’s club section! There will be a lull as our next clients do not arrive for a few weeks, but the action was as hot as ever and we expect it to heat up even more in mid-late July!

Boosalis Family takes Aikens by storm!

June 28th, 2003

When young Brandon Boosalis woke up this morning, he had spent the last two days watching as his mother Debbie and brother Bronson each catch two Master Angler fish. Well, today he was going to show them! In a span of 90 minutes, Brandon reeled in 3 trophy walleyes! Trophies of 70, 71, and 72 cm’s were caught, photographed, and released at Bear Island! Despite the rain, his smile shone through as you can clearly see in his pictures! Congratulations to the entire Boosalis family for an excellent trip to Aikens!
